Amethyst is a variety of quartz, unique in it's bright purple colour.
Amethyst is the February birthstone, and is also used to mark a 6th anniversary.
Amethyst is named from the Hebrew word 'ahlamah", meaning 'dream'. It was believed that amethyst could cause visions within the wearer.
