GEMONDO METAL ALLOYS

Precious metals such as gold and silver in their rawest forms are naturally soft. For this reason, they are combined with harder metals in a process known as 'alloying' to ensure they are durable enough for everyday wear and to achieve our signature metal tones.

GOLD CARAT

Gold purity is measured in parts per thousand (fineness).

9ct Gold (375/1000): Contains 37.5% pure gold, alloyed with silver, zinc, and copper to deliver strength and a beautiful finish.

925 STERLING SILVER & PLATING

Gemondo uses 925 Sterling Silver as our standard base metal, which is composed of 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% copper and zinc for enhanced durability.

To elevate the quality, color variety, and longevity of our silver jewellery, we apply high-standard plating and protective finishes:

• Rhodium Plating (Silver Tone): Applied over our 925 sterling silver to provide a bright, reflective finish while offering superior protection against tarnishing and scratching.
• Gold & Rose Gold Vermeil: Our yellow gold and rose gold-toned silver jewellery features a thick layer of 2.5 microns gold plating over 925 sterling silver, offering a luxurious appearance and long-lasting quality that far exceeds standard gold plating.
• Anti-Tarnish Coating: For pieces without Rhodium or Vermeil finish, an advanced anti-tarnish protective coating is applied to preserve the natural brightness of the silver and prevent oxidation over time.

HALLMARKING

Hallmarks are small stamps made on items like jewellery pieces that contain precious metals. They identify and categorise the purity of the precious metal used in any given piece. Hallmarking is one of the earliest forms of consumer protection as it provided a way to regulate precious metal content in products that could have otherwise just been base metal disguised with thin plating.

Hallmarked products usually require a certain amount of a given metal to be stamped. Items containing less than one gram of gold, less than 7.78 grams of silver or 0.5 grams of platinum do not legally require a hallmark in the UK.

With all the choice available now to customers it is more important than ever to protect your purchase and ensure that it has been adequately tested and hallmarked. Gemondo jewellery is hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office.

LASERMARKING

Lasermarking is the act of hallmarking but with the use of lasers rather than traditional stamps. This method prevents unnecessary distortion of the metal structure in the jewellery. The majority of Gemondo items have incorporated this new hallmarking method with a look to phase in on all items in the near future.
